On Thursday, April 22, for Earth Day, members of Extinction Rebellion San Francisco Bay Area turned up to support residents of Bayview Hunters Point and Treasure Island in their demands for environmental justice.

Protestors gathered for speeches and chants on the steps of San Francisco City Hall to let Mayor Breed know that it’s time to take the health of these communities seriously. With future projected sea-level rise, buried contaminants along the Bay shore could also become an issue for the entire Bay Area.

Indybay published a great write-up with more details about the history of these toxic sites, the cover-ups, and the ongoing struggle to ensure health and safety for all.
