Stop Funding Fossil Fuels @ Wells Fargo

We’ve had enough with banks fueling the climate crisis. Wells Fargo is the #1 funder worldwide of fracked oil and gas, the #2 US funder of the Line 3 pipeline currently being fought in Minnesota and the #3 private bank overall for funding fossil fuels. In a time when those supporting fossil fuels want you to give up hope, to believe that there is no point in taking action, that we are too late: we heed the call to RESIST … to rise up and ACT NOW for the hope of a better future.

Ally Action: From Paradise to Pacific Heights

When: Monday June 14th, 2021 from 11a - 5p
Where: Golden Gate Bridge, and two locations in Pacific Heights, SF
Organizer: Sunrise Movement Bay Area

Get out and support youth climate action! Sunrise Movement leaders from across California are marching 266 miles from Paradise to San Francisco for the Civilian Climate Corps. They are marching to demonstrate the urgency of the climate and economic crisis, and need for Congress and Biden to pass an ambitious CCC by the end of Summer 2021 as an immediate first-step solution.

The Civilian Climate Corps is a vision of a federal jobs program (modeled after the New Deal-era Civilian Conservation Corps) that will put a generation to work combatting the climate crisis with equity and equality, scaled to the size of the emergency.

Join the events on Monday, June 14th to welcome the marchers and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the city. There will be rallies and painted street murals outside the residences of our elected officials while demanding an ambitious CCC that provides good jobs to address the climate emergency and start the Decade of the Green New Deal.

San Francisco - #DefundLine3 Day of Action

(Artwork by Crystal Clarity)

What: Street Actions in SF to #DefundLine3
Where: 532 Market, San Francisco, CA 94104
When: Starting 9 AM, May 7th, 2021

For years, Indigenous communities and allies have been opposing the construction of the Line 3 pipeline, which would transport nearly one million barrels of dirty tar sands oil - every single day. Enbridge Energy, the company building the pipeline, has a terrible environmental track record, and this pipeline would violate several treaties with indigenous communities.

Indigenous-led water protectors and allies in Minnesota are taking action every day to stop the construction of Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline - confronting bulldozers, decision-makers, and the politicians that are putting profit before people. Pipelines take billions of dollars to build - and banks like JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of America, TD Ameritrade, Union Bank - as well as insurers like Liberty Mutual - are bankrolling Line 3.

As part of a Global Day of Action May 7th - we’ll be mobilizing in San Francisco’s Financial District to send a clear message to the banks and investors that they must #DefundLine3

Up The Ante Chase Digital Action Hour!

Zoom Meeting: Register Here

If constructed, Line 3 would violate sovereign rights held by the Ashinaabe over their sacred land, escalate the Ashinaabe’s risk of contracting Covid-19, create enormous ecological risks for the land cut by Line 3 and put Ashinaabe women at increased risk of sexual violence (as often happens when industrial projects begin near indigenous territory). We need to stop this!

Join us for a letter-writing, email and social media messaging one-hour “Up-The-Ante” campaign to urge Chase Bank to stop funding construction of the Line 3 and Keystone XL pipelines.

Bayview Hunters Point Says: WE CAN’T BREATHE!

The BVHP community held a press conference and mini-rally at MLK Park. At some point in the future maybe we will hold a car caravan if the need arises. Read about that here, here and here

The organizers in BVHP have cancelled the car caravan action due to ongoing health risks posed by the fires. Residents of Bayview Hunters Point are already at a much higher risk for asthma and other respiratory illnesses than the general population – which is itself a legacy of decades of injustice and pollution in their neighborhood.

This situation only underscores the intersecting crises we face in a warming world. Thanks to everyone who helped us organize this event, stay safe, and please stay tuned for more actions that we can take together in the weeks to come.

Read more in this statement from XRSF organizer and Bayview resident Blair.
